Three more positive COVID-19 wastewater results along Queensland coast

There were also COVID-19 fragments detected in a Cairns wastewater facility last week, prompting Dr Young to give a possible explanation for the positive test results in the far north Queensland city.

Last Friday, a historical COVID-19 case was detected in a Cairns resident.

“A gentleman in his 40s returned from the Congo in September and he was in hotel quarantine then, tested negative, but he had to have a test done prior to returning to work, so an employment requirement and he’s tested positive,” Dr Young said last Friday.

“He’s totally well, asymptomatic, so we think that is most likely a persistent shedding. We know you can shed for up to nine months after you’re positive and it probably explains why we have continued to have…
